Endangered Black and White Ruffed Lemur Moves to Minot 08.06.2007 Roosevelt Park Zoo is pleased to announce it's newest addition-one female black & white ruffed lemur. A young black & white ruffed lemur was brought to Minot as part of a breeding program with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Ruffed Lemur Species Survival Plan (SSP). The zoo has had a bachelor group of lemurs for several years. This will be the first lemur breeding program at RPZoo for a number of years, and zoo staff are excited. "We are very energized about this breeding recommendation for the lemurs" said Dana Gilstad, Zoo Director.. "Like all lemurs, black and white ruffed lemurs are endangered and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to try to breed this species to help maintain a healthy and genetically diverse population for the future of the species." The new lemur has finished her quarantine and will be introduced to the males this week. Be sure to stop in and visit out new lemur!
