  • Ducks, like swans and geese, are waterfowl. They can be recognized by their flattened bill, short legs and webbed feet.
  • They have thick waterproof feathers covering a layer of down which keeps them warm.
  • Male and female ducks look different. The male is called a drake, and is usually more colorful than the female, called a hen.
  • Most ducks nest near the water's edge or on islands and in tree hollows.
