Found in Wild:
North America. Large herd of bison can be found in Yellowstone Park. Bison also roam freely in the national park in Medora, ND.

Size and Description:

  • Males average 9 - 12 feet in length
  • Height: 6 feet at shoulder
  • Weight: about 2,000 pounds.
Diet (zoo): hay, pellets, browse
Diet (wild): grasses

Interesting Facts:
  • Bison are the largest land animals in North America
  • They are completely unpredictable and may attack anything for no apparent reason
  • They wallow or roll in the dust and mud to scratch and cover themselves to protect against biting insects.
  • Gestation: 9-1/2 months
  • Once roamed the plains of North America by the millions and then were killed off almost to extinction.
